Evolution of the 'Blog'
Ever wonder how blogs came about? Well, here it is - the evolution of the 'blog':
1991 - The world wide web went live (began as a hypertext discussion group)
1992 - Internet pioneer Tim Berners-Lee created the first "What’s New" page which had hotlinks to the new pages being uploaded to the Net.
1993 - Various other programmers created hand-coded pages with their recommendations for surfing or 'filtering' the Net
1994 - Justin Hall started his first "filter" log in site
1998 - Jorn Barger coined the term "weblog"
1999 - Websites Blogger and Pitas began to offer a simple way to create a weblog, allowing anyone to easily sign up, create a blog, and write postings - without having to know HTML.
2000 onwards - With the turn of the century there has now been millions of weblogs created online. The term is now pronounced web-log or the more recent abbreviation 'blog'.
